Our Home

From Old to New

old home

Our family recently moved into a new home.  Let me tell you moving is such a huge process; between finding the right fit home to packing up all of the sweet memories that you created, it is so bittersweet.

This was our sweet first home.  I absolutely loved this home and I was NOT ready to move on.  It was our first home as a family; we brought our second child into this home, we brought our first puppy into this home, and we made each space in the home authentic to our family.  We knew we needed more space than this home could give us and with a heavy heart we had to say goodbye to our first home.

I love finding homes with character, but also a home that I can create my own version of cozy, our own version of us!  This home brought both the character that I love and the ability to make it our own. With this home being our first, it brought so much excitement but fear in our choices.  My husband loves modern clean lines and I love the beauty of something old and raw. If you ask my husband he would tell you that he always told me that I could do whatever I wanted, which for most wives, this is exactly what you want to hear…not me, I wanted to find a way to marry our styles to truly make our home OUR design and not mine.  I wanted to make it feel cozy to all of us, a place we could call home.

Throughout four years we came to find our style as a couple and we were able to take this beautiful home with character and make some simple changes to turn it into OUR home.  We revamped many areas in the home; the mans’ den was first, then just some simple changes of paint to the bedrooms, our toy room space, painting the shutters and front door, and finally, the main living areas (dining and living rooms).  This is where my husband thought I was literally crazy…I wanted to paint the ceiling a dark gray…yes before it was a thing to do! Now, I am the least decisive person in the world, so not having the confidence from my hubby made me question it…but I decided to go for it anyways.  I painted the ceiling and we put white shiplap on the walls. It was beautiful and yes, my hubby fell in love too. We finally felt like our home was ours.

Our last fix up was our three season porch…this space became our ultimate favorite space.  If you live in the midwest, you know how bad the mosquitos can be in the summer season, so having a space outdoors that you can be protected from the bugs is a HUGE plus!  We made our porch a little getaway with some bright white color and a touch of raw wood as well. Add a few white lights and the space became perfect for our family dance parties and our grilling evenings.

This is when we realized that we needed some more space.  We added a puppy to our home with two kiddos and it just wasn’t quite enough room for us.  So we were on the hunt for a new home with more space and more land. Little did we know, we would find the perfectplace just 6 blocks from our home!

New Home

Here we are, from old to new!  We love our new home and it has so many beautiful, unique touches that we are excited to enhance with our style. Come along with me as we enhance the beauty of this unique home to become OUR home.
